Shhh... Want to Know the Biggest Weight Loss Secret?

Well I’ve certainly got your attention, don’t I? So what’s the secret to losing weight? What do over 60% of Americans desperately need to know? How do we get 17% of our children who are obese to lose weight? How can we prevent obesity and diabetes from becoming the top killer of Americans and crushing our healthcare delivery system? Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…. The secret is……….. we eat too much. I know. I know. It’s shocking right? Yes, folks, we eat too much. Today while purchasing a triple grande skim dry cappuccino from Starbucks (God I never thought that would be me), I perused the snacks at the checkout. One small, and I mean small, packet of almonds was nearly 500 calories. Now add to that a cinnamon dolce latte and you are over 800 calories. 800 calories is more than HALF the calories an American woman needs. And don’t even get me started on the amount of calories we consume when eating out. You can easily, very, very easily, consume 2500 calories at dinner at any one of the number of famous chain restaurants. So how many more TV shows on weight loss must we watch? How many more infomercial gadgets are we going to purchase? Who’s going to have the next best selling book on weight loss? How many more Oprah magazine articles must we read? How many more weight loss testimonials must we watch? It’s amazing that our world has two types of weight problems. Either we are eating ourselves to death, literally. Or we are starving ourselves to death in countries where food resources are scarce. So what can you do? How’s this for advice, EAT LESS! The options are endless. Cut what you are currently eating by one half. If you insist on eating a fat laden take-out cheeseburger with no nutritional value what so ever, then eat half of it. If you must go out to a restaurant 5 times a week, where it’s nearly impossible to stick to a sensible eating plan, then eat half your meal. If you’ve just got to have a Snickers, then take a bite and throw the rest out. Of course the way I want you to eat is 5 to 6 small mini meals per day, planned out, preferably cooked or prepared at home, with a concentration of fruit, vegetables, beans, lean proteins and healthy fats. But if all of that is just too much to swallow, no pun intended, then the place to start is here: What ever you are currently eating, eat less of it!! Don’t let food be your source of entertainment in 2010 and make it a blessed New Year.
