The Spirituality of Color

by Pamela Aloia

Every day, we are consciously and unconsciously affected by the colors around us. Studies have been performed on how colors impact our moods and likelihood to act, buy, eat, or socialize. Colors shift our emotions and can help us gain perspective. Colors can subtly motivate us and even irritate us. It is no mystery why schools, hospitals, and restaurants choose specific colors in different rooms and hallways so calm, healing, communication, and socialization can be supported and encouraged. The color clothes we wear, the color furniture we own, the color of the car we drive or bike we ride, has significance to many of us. When we have influence in choosing color, colors serve as an expression of who we are.

To fully understand the depths of color and how we can interact, integrate, and appreciate colors we can start simply by taking a color and examining it on all levels. For instance, when we look or think of a specific color, or a color combination, is it pleasing to us? Do we feel indifferent or inspired, relaxed or uptight? Is there a physical reaction to the color? While colors are important in the respite of our own homes as well as the clothes we wear, there is no limit to how we can play with colors in our daily lives.

Color can link us up with whatever healing or messages we may need in the moment. Let’s use, for an example, the color blue. Blue is known as a calming color. We may immediately think of the calming effect the bright blue sky exudes, or the blue color of a lake or ocean. Blue has also been known to support us in exploring our emotions and in provoking clear communication.

One common way we can incorporate blue into our lives is to imagine or visualize it surrounding us or another person, place or thing – in essence, sending the associated feelings of peace, calm, and gentleness to the recipient. We can also use blue color energy to help us communicate more clearly with ourselves and others, or to enable and encourage us in accessing emotion that we may be suppressing or ignoring by either focusing on the color or imagining the color all around us. We may have a favorite room in our homes that’s painted blue or we may have a go to blue outfit that we feel calm and confident in when we wear it.

From a spiritual perspective, there are various mystical beings linked with or associated with the color blue like Archangel Michael and the Ascended Master El Morya. Archangel Michael has long been illustrated carrying a sword of blue flame. If we’re feeling the need for physical, emotional, mental or spiritual protection, we can call in Archangel Michael and his legion of angels to stand with us, protecting us from whatever we ask.

The Ascended Master El Morya, has also been associated with the Blue Ray and Divine Will. In these interesting global times, trusting and believing in the Divine Will through the blue energy and compassion of Ascended Master El Morya can be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. As humans we usually want to know what’s next so we can prepare for it, which as we realize, that’s not always possible. In working with Ascended Master El Morya and his blue energy, we can release how we think things should be and encourage ourselves to trust in this Divine Will and Divine Plan for us all.

In addition, we can bring in the energy of or carry with us the crystal lapis lazuli, or other blue crystals, which can help with our communication with Source, our intuition, and our truth. Through this inner communication we access wisdom in how we choose to step out into this evolving world. Crystals like lapis can help keep us open to the truth that we uncover for ourselves, while respecting other people’s version of the truth as well.

From an animal totem blue energy, the whale energy is lovely to savor, supporting communication and truth, driving us to re-evaluate ourselves and what we connect with while challenging us to find our voices and using them where is most appropriate for us. The blue jay also provides a confident fearlessness and focused ability to keep ourselves safe as we venture out to new ways of being and living.

As you can see, the power of color alone can link us to almost an endless array of healing, growth, and protection simply by delving into the color and its associations. In this instance, the blue energy encompasses valuable aspects for us to draw upon as we step into what’s next for us.

Any color can provide such depth too when we take the time to explore its characteristics and connections. When we sit with a color, breathe it in, or meditate with it, we can learn so much about its qualities, how they relate to us individually and collectively and discover the comfort each can provide, in times of strife and during times of peace.
