Ask Your Pet

Dear Jennifer,
My buddy Somer was almost 16 years old when I had to let her go. She’s a very special animal and touched everyone that came into contact with her. I’m not sure what my beliefs are about life after death and reincarnation, but am curious and hopeful that we can be reunited with those people and animals that have touched our lives. Maybe you can provide a clue or insight into what happened to Somer or what she may communicate to you. I am 53 and have buried most of my family, but this is the most difficult one for me.

Dear Victor,
I’m very sorry for your loss. Thank you for having the courage to express the depth of your grief. Many people feel the loss of a pet as much as the loss of a human family member, but are embarrassed to admit it. Your letter will help other readers to feel more comfortable with their grief, and thereby assist in their healing.
When I first connected with Somer, I saw an image of her excitedly bounding up to me. Then she immediately went into a sitting position. She seemed well-trained and friendly. Somer said that she was an explorer, and was always looking around and digging her nose into things. She simply had to know what everything was.
I sensed sadness radiating from Somer, and asked her why. She said that she felt that her death was her fault, because she ate something that she wasn’t supposed to and it was toxic. Somer said that you had warned her before about eating things that are not food, and she felt very guilty that she didn’t listen. Her sadness was not for herself; she had a long and wonderful life with you and is content with that. But, she felt terrible because she believed that she was responsible for your pain. She asked me to tell you that she’s sorry and loves you very much.
I explained to Somer that it was not her fault, that everyone makes mistakes and she had not intentionally caused this tragic event to occur. She was resistant at first, so I sent her a lot of Reiki energy, and reassured her that you love her and do not blame her. I also asked Archangel Ariel, said to be the protector of animals, to assist Somer in her emotional healing. Eventually, I felt a wave of relief from Somer, and the air of sadness greatly dissipated. She then showed me an image of a ball and asked if I wanted to play!
Somer told me that she would like to return to you, and plans to reincarnate around late August of this year. She said that you will find her five to six months later. Somer showed me an image of a dark reddish-brown dog with floppy ears, and said that you’ll know her when you look into her eyes.
