The Bliss Mistress Guide: Spring Has Sprung

by Edie Weinstein

As I am writing this article, spring has been ushered in here in the Northern Hemisphere. According to examiner.com, The Spring Vernal equinox occurs the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator, the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator, from south to north. This happens each year, either on March 19, 20 or 21st. "Equinox" means "equal night" in Latin.”

Gazing out my window, the winter bare branches that a few days ago were coated with ice and snow are beginning to give way to new life. Having grown up in the Philadelphia area (with a 3 year stint in mostly sunny South Florida), what I say about the weather here is that if you don’t like it, just wait a few minutes. Mercurial Mother Nature just doin’ her thang. Although the sun is streaming in through the curtains, it is still in the 30’s and predicted to have rain changing to snow tomorrow with highs in the 40’s. I am so ready for warmth and wonder as the green shoots pop through the thawing ground.

I love seasonal changes since they remind me that everything has a beginning and an end and it is a perpetual cycle. Just when we might think it will be dark and cold forever and our chilled bones can’t take another moment of slippery, slushy mess, ta-da! Spring comes dancing out in all her finery. So too is it with our souls. Consider some of the darkest, most dismally cloudy and overcast times of your life. Did you wonder if the sun would ever emerge? Didn’t it always? Perhaps I am pre-disposed to this type of thought process because I come by it genetically and environmentally. Even though there were times when my family faced ‘life stuff’ including illness, injury, death, financial challenges, a truth was evident…we would get through it. Love was the antidote to it all and it could melt even the most hardened frost.

In the past few months, I have faced doubts that my choices would lead me to the life I desired and designed in my oh- so- vivid imagination. I sometimes hibernated beneath the covers, allowing fears to grow roots around me and pull me into the depths. Not despair, mind you, just trepidation, like a frightened rabbit hunkering down in its burrow. I have peeked my wiggling nose out from under, sniffed the air and found it safe to emerge. On this day, I am willing to scamper into the fresh green grass, basking in the beams of the sun as it offers warmth to this winter weary heart.
