Excerpt from "Encyclopedia of the Divine, Spiritual and Occult"

Introduction

by Heather Eaton

When I started my spiritual quest I discovered that there were many, many terms and words that I didn’t understand, and people of whom I had never heard of. I started to keep a record of what I was learning while I was writing a book on herbs. Somehow that file turned into an Encyclopedia. I hope that this book will help others understand not only the terminology and the definitions but the spiritual concepts and the higher truths that accompany that knowledge as well.

This book is comprised of the main encyclopedic text, followed by a Recommended Reading section which includes a more detailed list of books (up to 15 for each) by authors described in the book as well as other recommended authors. This is followed by a section called Artists and Art, which lists the over 300 artists and works of art depicted herein. And lastly there are the reference files including the bibliography and webliography.

The main encyclopedic text includes around 4,000 entries. It gives a brief description or definition of each entry and tries to point the reader to the source of more information, such as books and websites or to other related entries. The people described herein, half of whom have passed on and half of whom are living are all people who in one way or another have spiritually influenced our world. You will find many highly educated people, as well as people with practically no education but with a spiritual gift to share or mystical message to impart. These entries include:
