Pluto Enters Capricorn: Predictions & Its Meaning by Sign

by Elizabeth Joyce

Pluto enters Capricorn on January 25th and doesn't leave it for good until November 19, 2024. Pluto's transits are sixteen years plus. In any birth chart, Pluto is the planet influencing and/or defining generations of people rather than an individual. However, its effects on the individual can be discerned by considering the Natal House it occupies and what other planets may be aspected in the Natal Chart. Potent consequences are more likely if Pluto conjuncts the ascendent (or rising sign,) is conjunct another planet, or trines one. Your House positions are also important with transiting Pluto.

This planet's transits truly can bring one through a "rights of passage." Pluto's movement will coincide with births, marriages, deaths, divorce, financial changes, (up or down,) as well as psychological growth or challenges. Pluto usually forces us to let go of life situations that are blocking our personal evolution, and these changes typically will alter our lifestyle. When undergoing a strong Pluto transit, you may have to deal with troublesome situations or people. If you fail to address issues or concerns related to your inner-self, circumstances that come up in your life will force you to confront that which you'd rather leave buried.

Pluto, the transformational planet of the Zodiac, is connected with the necessary urge for renewal, the tearing down of the old and the rebuilding of the new. This planet can also be associated with terrorism, mass movements, country take-overs, severe weather conditions and change that occurs on a larger scale. When this planet is affecting your chart directly, you will experience an overriding drive to change yourself, as uncomfortable issues from your sub-conscious mind begin to surface into your consciousness. Such matters will usually revolve around deep-seated needs of one kind or another. For example, when transiting Pluto crossed over your natal Saturn you will experience lack of money in some form or another. This can be a six month to a year's cycle.

Capricorn is a Cardinal Earth Sign, and as such it is strong, assertive, pragmatic, practical, productive, materialistic, traditional, and goal-driven. Oh and one more point, it takes no nonsense from anyone or any thing! The theme of Capricorn is the establishment of a prominent social position in the world, being the "top dog," or the "hot shot." Because it's ruled by the hand of Saturn, this sign is involved with structure and form, organizing all concrete elements into a functioning whole through the use of available resources, as well as the setting of limits. This sign allows for no extravagance or waste. The sixteen years of transiting Pluto's influence will be affected by or filtered through Capricorn characteristics, such as a serious, focused attitude, responsibility, hard work, ambition, self-discipline, and frugality, as well as the desire for Social Status and public recognition.

We have no idea how this new energy will affect our life, our nation and our world because it has been more than 275 years since we experienced the last transit of Pluto in Capricorn. That was during the time of the Revolutionary War, when we were strongly defending this country and fighting for our freedom as a nation. Pluto transited through Capricorn from December 24, 1515 through the end of 1532. This was a time for the mass consciousness to renew their relationship with the divine. These years saw the dawning of the Protestant Revolution (1517) in Western Europe. This was a very important phase for a large portion of humanity. Although this reformation was essentially a religious movement, it had a massive impact on the human mind, and consequently on many human activities.

The last Capricorn ingress through Pluto took place between early January 1762 until the Spring of 1777. This was a time mankind reviewed its attitudes towards work, wealth, and the management of our natural resources. To an extent this happened when the "New World" was discovered but not in the radically different way that might have been needed, from this New Millennium's point of view.

During its retrograde period in 2008, from April 2 through September 8, it will move back into Sagittarius on June 14 to September 8, where it will then go direct. It will not move back into Capricorn until November 26, 2008. During Pluto's backward travel into Sagittarius, you will have the opportunity to address any lingering issues related to Pluto's sojourn in the sign of the Free-Loving Archer. The point of power is December 29, 2009. That is the day that whatever was broken up, set aside or lost will be in completion. Pluto is famous for destruction before reconstruction, and while in the sign of Capricorn, this will be no fun --- to say the least. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the hand of the Father. The task-maker and disciplinarian.

What might be coming up for the World's Consciousness is:

1) The power to effect change is in the hands of a few nations represented by their military and industrial strengths.

2) Large numbers of human beings will probably be manipulated towards conflict and fear over the acquisition and control of our decreasing natural resources, particularly food and oil.

3) There will be a breakdown of the world-wide financial and corporate structures.

4) There will be a breakdown of our biological structures ecosystems.

The energies coming together show a profound renewal in our relationship to outer space and the universe, the biosphere and how it has been contaminated, and the sharing of our world resources as well as power management. There is a need to break away from obsolete power generation and resource management systems by initiating radically new ways of being. There may be some world-wide strikes as people come together and forcefully demand their right to access resources and generate power, and more than electricity and fuel.

Innovative power generating technologies will become available to provide the necessary tools needed to break free from the grips of centralized control. This will more than likely bring up issues that will have to be confronted as we move along into 2046.

There is so much more to say, but I will stop here and make a list of areas where we can expect some radical changes over these next sixteen years:

Ecosystem breakdowns

Increased Earth Changes

The end of Cheap Oil (As crude oil moves to $160 a barrel)

A deeply penetrating Spiritual Crisis

Population Unrest and Global Conflicts

Demographic Slowdown (through starvation, war and people stopping pregnancies)

Economic Crisis and a complete reformation of the Monetary System

Reform of Work Ethics

Reform in Politics - a Dictatorial Government - and Government Methods

The reversal of Globalization and the idea of the New World Order

Genetic Technologies Applied to our food and our unborn children

Worldwide Health Crisis

As all this happens around you, it will be your task to retain your individualism in the face of overwhelming forces that are bound to emerge. You will have to face your own inner demons, solve your own problems, and use all the available internal and external resources to make your own judgments, to rise above the collective consciousness. . You will also have to make concrete decisions about what up-and-coming issues and matters you are willing to endorse, including our approaching new government. (If we even are able to hold elections by this fall.)
