Ask Your Pet
by Jennifer Dickman
Dear Jennifer,
I recently had to put my black lab, Sash, to sleep. She was 14 and was my best friend. I am trying to figure out if there is reincarnation and hoping that my girl made it safely. If there is really reincarnation how do we know and what are the messages that our animals send us from up above that we do not pick up on?
Sharon D.
Dear Sharon,
I’m very sorry for your loss. Please be assured that Sash crossed over safely. Animals usually cross over easily and quickly, as they are already more connected to the other side than we are and don’t have our hang-ups about death.
I have had many experiences that confirm my belief that reincarnation exists. I once spoke to a dog on the other side who conveyed to me both when she would reincarnate and the primary breeds that would be in her mix. At just the right time, a litter of puppies was found that was that same mix of breeds. Another animal communicator, my client, and I all independently identified the same puppy in the litter as being the reincarnation of my client’s dog. Since returning home, that puppy (now full-grown) has shown many signs of being the reincarnation of my client’s previous dog, including knowing the secret spot in her very large yard where she’d always buried her bones.
Most experiences are less dramatic than this. Many pet parents just have a deep sense of knowing that their animal companions have been with them before. If our pets are meant to return to us (and this is not always the case), they always find their way back home.
Our pets that have crossed over give us many signs that they are around. One of the most common is appearing to us in dreams. If you would like to visit with a pet that has crossed over, set your intention to do so before you go to sleep, and then ask your pet to come to you in a dream if she is able. Don’t become disillusioned if this doesn’t seem to work right away; you may just need practice in recalling your dreams, or your animal friend may have been otherwise occupied that particular evening.
Another common sign is a strong sense of the pet’s presence. This often occurs during quiet moments, or just as we are awakening or drifting off to sleep. Other animals in our homes can also give us clues that our "deceased" pets are around. For example, a lone cat may appear to be play-wrestling with a cat you cannot see, or a dog may suddenly become very excited and run over to a certain spot with his tail wagging, as if he is greeting a friend.
I’ve found that if we put pressure on ourselves to see the signs we often miss them, but if we are simply open and receptive they are more readily apparent.
Many Blessings,
Jennifer Dickman
