Inside every acorn there is the potential for a mighty oak tree. This is why the acorn exists, this is its purpose. Purpose is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. Purpose is a person’s sense of resolve or determination. Your reason for existing is your purpose. As you embark upon this New Year, consider for a moment what your purpose is.
Your purpose is simply who or what you want to be and what you want to do. For example, in our office our purpose is to educate, empower, and serve our community in creating a wellness lifestyle. Our mission statement is based on this premise. As an individual you should determine what your purpose is in order to create success in your personal life.
Start by asking yourself who or what you want to be and what you want to do. Once you have determined this you have a set of standards based on your values by which to base all future decisions. For instance, when making decisions in our chiropractic office we filter all products, services and ideas through our purpose and mission statement, and if they don’t align with our purpose then we don’t integrate that product, service, or idea into our office. Walt Disney utilized this principle when confronted with the decision to sell alcohol in public areas of his park. The idea was presented to him by a team of consultants and would have tripled his revenues overnight. However, Disney declined on the premise that it did not align with his purpose of family entertainment.
Begin this New Year by discovering your purpose. Write it down and carry it with you as a reminder. By staying on purpose you will accomplish much more and achieve great success in the New Year.
