Emei Qigong Comes to Burlington, VT
May and July, 2011
by Miranda Smith
Qigong instruction has become increasingly available over the last few years. Classes and seminars are springing up in recreational centers and spas alike, some of them simply called Qigong and others titled with a descriptive name. It’s easy to be confused about the differences between various schools of qigong, and beginning students may mistakenly conclude that all qigongs must be similar enough so that differences don’t much matter.
However, the differences are profound. Of the three major qigong schools in China, Emei Qigong is the only one to have a lineage holder and the one most focused on healing the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the practitioner as well as other people.
Grandmaster Fu Wei Zhong, the 13
th Lineage Holder of Emei Qigong, is coming to Burlington, Vermont on May 28-29, 2011 for a Level I seminar and on July 2-7 to teach a Level II seminar.
Emei Qigong was founded in 1227 when a monk climbed Emei Mountain and sat, waiting for enlightenment. With his enlightenment came a synthesis of more than 3,600 schools of thought, philosophies, and techniques that he called the Emei Linji School of Qigong—or Emei Qigong.
This knowledge was kept alive and in secret in the Emei monestary for close to 700 years. Today, that has changed. Through a history too lengthy to describe here, Grandmater Fu’s mission is to disseminate this knowledge and train teachers to carry on the tradition in the west.
Grandmaster Fu Wei Zhong will be teaching a Level I seminar in Burlington, Vermont, May 28-31,2011.
