Astrological Forecast for November & December 2011

by Armand M. Diaz, PhD

The last two months of 2011 promise to be full of transitions and transformation. Next year’s dynamic Uranus-Pluto square may seem far off, but like a giant lumbering across the landscape, it casts its shadow in front of itself. What that means is that even relatively minor astrological aspects – like the Moon going into a sign that aspects Uranus and Pluto – can have significant effects.

Uranus-Pluto is all about deep transformation, the breaking of the status quo and the emergence of a new way of being. We haven’t had as significant an astrological aspect since the turbulent 1960s, and we’re already seeing growing tension and unrest. We may have been polarized for a long time, but until recently our disagreements have been expressed in voting booths rather than the streets. That is changing, and although change may be necessary, it may also come at a significant price.

We can add into the mix the planet Neptune, a vague but powerful energy that can inspire or delude us. Neptune is revisiting Aquarius this winter, where he stirs up issues having to do with mass communication, whether that is about disease (Contagion) or the internet. Neptune is very active through the end of the year.

November

On the 1st, Mercury makes a tense square to Neptune. This is a good time to meditate, dream, or use your imagination, but don’t sign on the dotted line. Give it a day or two to decide if your brainstorm really was such a great idea.

On the 7th, Mars has a few words with Neptune. This energy can really get us to go beyond the boundaries. We may feel very energetic, but the possibility of acting on impulse and incorrect information is very real. Moderation will be in short supply, and activity can flow in both positive and negative directions.

Two days later, on the 9th, Neptune will appear to stop in the sky and begin moving forward in the zodiac. The two days or so before and after the station may have a rather vague, uneasy feel to them. Again, the possibility of getting riled up about something (or nothing) is significant, so try to stay with routine tasks. Do use this time to get in touch with your dreams, fantasies, and higher realities. The added Full Moon energy of the 10th might make it hard to back away from action, however.

Mars and Jupiter make a nice aspect on the 16th. This is a good time to put plans into action and try to accomplish what needs to be done. Practical, earthy matters can get a bit of a lift from these two fiery planets, so make the most of this time.

On the 20th, Neptune is back in the picture, this time aspected by the sun. On a personal level, we may be inclined to think too much or too little of ourselves. Don’t take ego issues too seriously around this time. Note what the message seems to be, but assume you are seeing it through a fish-eye mirror, where things are seen out of their true proportion. Collectively, look to see how our "leaders" are faring.

Mercury retrogrades on the 24th through December 13th. Around this time, it is best to avoid purchasing electronics and technology products. Communi-cations tend to go awry, cars have problems (often with the electrical systems), and contracts need to be rewritten. Mercury retrograde is an excellent time to reread a book, and to do nonverbal types of activities. Back away from our 24/7 plugged-in culture, and you may learn something valuable.

A day later, on the 25th, we have a partial Solar Eclipse, visible only in the Southern Hemisphere. Eclipse energy tends to be felt everywhere, though, and the weeks before and after an eclipse are often tense. Issues that have been around for a while, simmering beneath the surface, suddenly come to a boil. Once again, note what is demanding your attention, but don’t assume things are as dire as they may seem.

Relationships might be on the top of the list around this time, as Venus, planet of love and relationships, becomes very busy for the next few days, aspecting Uranus, Jupiter and Pluto. The Goddess is in Capricorn, where a serious, traditional approach to relationship prevails. However, the status quo is deeply challenged by the aspects from these planetary heavies. Partnerships may need an overhaul, a change of direction, or a shifting of priorities around this time. Strong ties will continue to bind, but a relationship that is hanging on by a thread may not continue.

December

Then again, with Mars being aspected by the Sun, Mercury and Venus from the 2nd through the 5th, taking action, even if it means breaking up, may seem very appealing. This time may get us to be a bit more concerned with self rather than other, but there is no reason that can’t be a constructive change. Don’t be brash and bullying, but assertiveness is the way to go now.

Things really start to get moving around the 10th. On this day, we have two major celestial events, a Lunar Eclipse and a station of the planet Uranus. The eclipse will be partially visible in North America, in the morning as the Moon sets. The December Full Moon is always an impressive one, high in the sky, so even if you miss the eclipse, check out the brightest night of the year.

The energy of this day is likely to be as impressive as the Moon. Both Full Moons and Uranus stations tend to amp up the collective energy. The feel of this day is one of experimentation and trying new things. We’ll be eager for change, and ready to go in a new direction. The details will vary quite a bit for each of us, but this is a day when we will be in the midst of the deep change we have been anticipating. How much time we’ll be able to devote to reflecting on things is open to question, because we’ll be so active, but we ought to be able to see where we are heading – for now, at least.

Venus squares Saturn on the 18th. The relationship tension felt at the beginning of the month can lead to a decision now. In fact, issues that began around late September might come to a head during the middle of December. Going separate ways is a possibility, but so is moving towards greater commitment.

Venus is also active on the 20th and 21st, as she aspects Jupiter and Uranus. This time around, the feel is more flowing and balanced, and we can move forward into new territory more easily. Compare this energy to the feeling at the beginning of the month, and you’ll get an idea of the direction your relationship is moving.

Early on December 22nd, at 12:30 a.m. EST, the Sun enters Capricorn, marking the beginning of winter. From this point on, the days will grow longer as we begin the long climb towards summer.

On Christmas Day, the 25th, Jupiter, the Cosmic Santa Clause, stations to move direct. This is a feel-good aspect that should help to make the holidays go smoothly. Excess, in the form of too much food or too many gifts, is the one downside, but this is a very helpful aspect that generates hope and inspiration. The New Moon energy of the 24th should help us to move forward with new determination.

The last aspects of 2011 are more serious. The Sun meets Pluto on the 29th, asking us to consider who is really in charge. Sometimes our conspiracy theories are fueled by uncertainty about what is really going on, and this aspect can either open up a new door to the truth or close it in our face. Either way, uncertainty about power issues is a possibility.

As we head towards the New Year, Mercury again aspects Mars. Assertive communication and letting others know what we think are the likely outcome of this aspect. Issues that came up a month or more ago can finally be resolved.

The final months of 2011 are active, as will be all the months in 2012 and for some time to come. The challenge for each of us is to try to keep some kind of perspective on the changes that are happening around us and within us. Creating a new world is a big task, and our personal and collective resistance makes it even more difficult. The energy of this time allows us to stand at a crossroads and make a decision. Choose wisely!
