Indigo Children: Gifted or Troubled?
by Angela Aim
“It starts when we are children; helpless but aware of things, enjoying what is around us. Then we reach adolescence, still helpless but trying to at least appear independent. When we outgrow that stage, we become adults-self sufficient individuals able and mature enough to help others as we have learned to help ourselves.
But the adult is not the highest stage of development. The end of the cycle is that of the independent, clear minded, all-seeing Child. That is the level known as wisdom.
Why do the enlightened seem filled with light and happiness, like children? Why do they sometimes even look and talk like children? Because they are. The wise are children Who Know. Their minds have been emptied of small learning, and filled with the wisdom of the Great Nothing, the Way of the Universe.”

So who are Indigo Children and how do we recognize them?
· They come into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often act like it)
· They have a feeling of "deserving to be here," and are surprised when others don't share that.
· Self-worth is not a big issue. They often tell the parents "who they are."
· They simply will not do certain things; for example, waiting in line is difficult for them.
· They get frustrated with systems that are ritually oriented and don't require creative thought.
· They will not respond to "guilt" discipline ("Wait till your father gets home and finds out what you did").
· They are not shy in letting you know what they need.
According to The National Foundation, a nonprofit organization for gifted and Creative Children, “many gifted children are mistakingly thought to be “learning disabled.” They also state that “many gifted children are being destroyed in the public educational system by being falsely labeled with ADHD and autism.” And many parents are unaware that their child could be potentially gifted. If the Indigo Child has been identified as a
“problem,” testing is essential. Most Indigo Children will exhibit at least one area of study in the very superior range while school-based performance will be at least in the average range. Often they will be labeled as hyperactive individuals who won’t “listen,” since the old ways, such as direct request, will not work for this type of children.
An important thing to remember is that if children experience failure early, they may give up and develop permanent learning blocks.
Indigo Children remind me of a rainbow that reflects their multi faceted personality. Their eyes filled with wisdom mirroring their ancient soul, quite often they look like middle aged adults in their early childhood years. Look for a strange, faraway look in the eyes, as if they contained some kind of magic, mysterious knowledge you can't penetrate.
Unpredictable in their behavior, but lovable and often amusing, they can be quite a spinning propeller to contend with. They like to close their eyes while they are talking, trying to gather the information that comes deep within their being.
They almost desperately seek the security of crowds and saturate themselves with friendship. Their confidence and sense of royalty serves them as an acceptance pass in our society. Socially magnetic, they’ll talk to anyone, anytime. Then suddenly, they fall into a gloomy, morose spell of loneliness, and want to be strictly left alone. But whether they are mingling or singling, they'll retain their sharp perception, which is at once both deeper and quicker than others.
Children around them instinctively sense their extraordinary nature and oftentimes this type of child feels like an outcast. Feeling rejected by their own peers, they are looking for a company of older friends. Born special and different than others, they usually succeed in the field of spirituality, philosophy and religion.
Raising and teaching these children can be a big responsibility. Their minds combine fixed practicality with uncanny perception and sharp, probing logic. Sometimes hyperactive and awkward in their body, they get distracted easily if something really exciting comes to their attention. The immediate reaction to a command (or even a pleasant suggestion) is often an emphatic no. But let them think about it, mull it over, and it's surprising how many times their final reaction will be sensible. Potential leaders, they won’t tolerate injustice, control or bullying.
Natural healers, sometimes they cause a thing to happen by simply concentrating on it and waiting. With keen perception and strong intuition, like some kind of unseen radio wave, they have a hard time following step by step instructions in a class or home environment.
Following routine orders in school turns them into daydreamers and window gazers. Encouraging them to participate in exciting sport activities will help them to overcome boredom and daily routines.
They need to learn the importance of organizing their thoughts in a logical order. Otherwise, a potential genius can turn into an eccentric adult, headed in several directions at once, and end up going around in circles. But they'll always prefer their own independent discovery to organized activity. So it’s important to teach them to make their own decisions and also encourage them to act on them.
This type of children feels a deep connection to elemental world: birds, trees, nature and the seashore.
Young Indigos can almost see into the souls of others, and hear thoughts which haven't even been audibly expressed, which can really disturb them and make them suffer silently. When they grow into their adolescent years, Indigo children like to experiment to stimulate their senses. Not only are they good at intuitively picking up on hidden agendas or motives, but they are equally masterful at turning those agendas back on their parents.
With the correct approach, much can be done to strengthen and improve their values and relationships with their peers, school and family!
Indigos are led by unprejudiced wisdom, our “new” boys and girls have been chosen by destiny to bring new energy to our new home Earth; they are a promise of tomorrow! As long as they remain uninhibited by parental powers and social distractions, they will step forward and say their piece. They aware of their gifts, but it is our time to acknowledge the obvious and welcome them here.

About Angela Aim
For the past 8 years, I have studied different methods and healing modalities that have allowed me to conclude that Indigo Children respond extremely well to energy healing as well as special exercises that are done in a group setting or on an individual basis. In the year of 2007, I founded the Indigo Children Club with a prime mission in mind, assisting Indigo Children to adapt to their home and school environment.
I have discovered that via a series of simple yet powerful tools children learn and open up at their own pace, without the fear of being judged or blamed for their misbehavior. Moreover, every child that joins the club gets on the road of self discovery. They like what they learn about themselves and they have fun with who they really are!
By working in a small team, each individual comes to master a healthy self esteem and develops excellent communication skills. They learn the power of positive affirmations, balancing and grounding techniques, and guided visualization and meditation which stimulates their imagination and calms down the mind. Above all, they understand how much power they carry and the responsibility that comes with it.
