Rare Jewels, Bottled Water and Wasted Energy
by Dr. Stewart Bitkoff
Rare Jewels
The allegory of a treasure hunt or a search for a hidden secret is an old one. While no real treasure may exist, in terms of jewels or gold, there is indeed a hidden factor.
The capacity to perceive, or analyze every day events in a different way is the ancient treasure. Hidden within each of us is an ‘organ,’ which under the proper circumstance perceives the real patterns which shape our lives.
This capacity to see past the ordinary is our birthright and is taught to those who are fitted for it. The degree to which this capacity is awakened is in relation to the spiritual traveler’s need in service to others.
It becomes operational only as it is used to help others and give people what they need, not what they think they need. This is how it works.
Service at its highest level occurs when we are able to look at ordinary events and turn them into jewels which really benefit others.

Bottled Water
While grocery shopping, have you considered how many brands and the variety of bottled water available? There is natural, cold spring, hot spring, sport, vitamin enhanced and countless diet and non-diet carbonated soda water.
Also, at meals, have you noticed how rarely water is the beverage of choice? In some restaurants, you have to ask for water before they will serve it; and it is not uncommon for some children, in their own home, to go days without a plain, glass of water.
It is the same with humanity’s religion. There is an endless variety of forms, and for most people, the ‘water’ must be sweetened and dressed-up before they will drink it.

Wasted Energy
So much of human thought and activity is misdirected and potentially wasted. Consider the situation of over eating. Not only is our body slowed down and made ill by excess weight but the individual may have to diet and exercise to off set this problem. Additionally, consider the energy which was used to make the money to purchase the food, store, select, prepare and even raise the various items. All this activity, so, the individual might create a problem for self.
As well, this process is similar in other dimensions of human activity and is brought about through greed. As one may be greedy for food, so, one may misdirect psychological and spiritual processes; resulting in all manner of disjointed activity.
