The Bliss Mistress Guide: Never Settle
by Edie Weinstein
Last night, I debuted my radio show called It’s All About Relationships on Vivid Life Radio. Although it has been in discussion for around a year, in actuality, it has been a lifetime in the making. Did you ever engage in something that you felt as if you were born to do? This is it….well at least part of it. As a kid, I loved being center stage and as a seasoned woman, nothing has changed. I’m just a bit more grounded and focused in my communication style. As I sat in my cozy room in beautiful Bucks County, PA, my voice echoed outward world -wide and my heart got carried along with it. Radio broadcasting is a strange experience; since I couldn’t see or hear anyone other than my guest who was calling in from Cali and my producer who is based in Canada.
On Valentine’s Day, a ‘Hallmark Holiday” that primarily focuses on partner relationships, it felt important to interview a guest who work centered around loving the woman or man in the mirror. Enter the world and work of Christine Arylo who wrote the wildly successful Madly In Love With Me: A Daring Adventure of Becoming Your Own Best Friend. This woman whose energy, passion, ideas and intention mirror my own to such an extent that it seemed as if we were engaged in a Vulcan Mind Meld.
One of the concepts she shared about had to do with choosing healthy relationships. She expressed it as a promise to herself after a relationship with a man to whom she was engaged, ended by his choosing. In retrospect, she was able to recognize that allowing for such a destructive partnership was part of her lack of self- love at the time. She made this vow “I will never settle for less than my heart and soul desires.” Too often, we settle for crumbs when we deserve and desire the entire pie (perhaps not eaten all at once, but savored.) This is as true in our relationships as it is at the kitchen table. I shake my head with dismay when I recall the number of times when I have succumbed to the idea that I would rather have some of what I want than nothing at all. These days, I would much prefer to wait as patiently as I can; although not my strong suit, for what I truly welcome than the hollow promise of what I could ‘get by with’. It is similar to the idea of going to a restaurant and telling the waiter or waitress, “I’ll just take whatever’s in the kitchen,” rather than specifically requesting something that would satisfy your hunger and tantalize your taste buds.
What is that is heart and soul satisfying for you?
How have you made a deal with deceit and denial and ended up dis-satisfied?
What would it take for you to ask for what YOU want, even it is not specifically on the menu?
And an even bigger question: once you have ordered it and it is delivered to you, are you totally willing to receive it, embrace it, enjoy it, dive into it?
