Ask the Astrology Guy
by Rev. Jeff Pica
Dear Astrology Guy,
I know my chart and I have a Yod aspect. I have read different astrology books, and tried to understand/interpret what this [rare] aspect means regarding my life (possibilities/hindrances, or "task" in life), but never knew how to interpret this Yod.
I came upon your website, and thought that maybe you could give me an interpretation or informations about my Yod. I would really appreciate it. I have joined to this mail an image of my birthchart so you can take a look at it.
My Yod aspect is Neptune (in Sagitarius, House 4) in a Sextile aspect with Jupiter (in Aquarius, House 5) [and both in aspect to] Saturn (in Cancer, House 10) as the Apex planet.
Thanking you in advance for taking the time to answer me.
friendly regards,
I was born November 3 , 1973 in Saintes (France) at 2:30 am.
Gerry
Hello Gerry
,
Not too many people understand or even know what a Yod is in Astrology, so thank you so much for writing in. In order to understand your Yod, we must take a look at your chart as a whole.
Your Sun is in Scorpio, telling us that you are here to delve into life's deeper experiences and meaning, what lies beneath superficiality. With your Sun and Mercury in the Third House, you are asked to somehow communicate that experience to others. With the Third House involved, you can most readily communicate that experience to your siblings, your cousins, even within your neighborhood, but with both your Moon and Jupiter in Aquarius, you are able to communicate that experience to everyone. With your Moon close to Jupiter (in astrology called Conjunct,) you are given great capacity for emotion and feeling, and being in the rather impersonal but humanistic sign of Aquarius, what you feel and experience is more comfortably directed towards the concerns for mankind and society as a whole, and less emotionally comfortable within close, personal relationships.
Your Sun in Scorpio is making a disagreeable Square aspect to your Moon in Aquarius, usually indicative of an argumentative early home life, and whose parents are more inclined to divorce. Conflict in early life is a direct link to any feelings of over-sensitivity you have now as an adult. Your Neptune in Sagittarius at the Nadir (or bottom) of your chart (also known as the cusp to the Fourth House,) is making a Square aspect to your Ascendant in Virgo and Descendant in Pisces. A harsh Square aspect such as this from Neptune to this axis reveals that there were harsh or troubling conditions in childhood that have led you to believe that the world is an unsafe and scary place. These beliefs affect the security you have in yourself today and within partnership with others.
Your Neptune in the Fourth House also tells us that you experienced confusion in your childhood, not quite sure exactly where you were, and what this place (meaning, "Earth") is all about. You can take comfort in knowing that those with Neptune Conjunct the Nadir experience a peaceful spiritual existence later in life (and usually live by some type of body of water.)
Your Saturn in the Tenth House Conjunct the South Node, tells us that in your last incarnation you were most concerned with getting ahead in business and within society. Your Venus Conjunct the North Node in the Fourth House, tells us that your efforts to overcome childhood conditioning and experience love, roots, family, and the home will provide a profound source of soul growth for you in this lifetime.
Your Venus is in Sagittarius, (which is always fun) and making an Opposition aspect to the planet Saturn, which might temper an otherwise social person to appear somewhat cold and reserved. Additionally, a Venus/Saturn Opposition aspect denotes the presence of space within relationships. Either it is difficult for you to get emotionally close to others (or others to you) or you may tend to get involved in long distance relationships, therefore physical space.
The planet Pluto makes a challenging Square aspect to your Venus/Saturn Opposition, creating a large "T" formation across your chart, appropriately called a T-Square aspect. Pluto seeks deep, penetrating, and usually highly sexual relationships. This T-Square aspect creates a push/pull dynamic of extremes within your relationships, which may start out "hot and heavy" and quickly lead to cooling off.
Your Mars is in an Opposition aspect to the planet Uranus, creating a very rebellious nature, a fiercely independent streak, and one not very fond of authority figures. Your Mars also makes a stimulating Square aspect to the planet Jupiter, an indication of broad physical capabilities, and one prone to rashness and immoderation.
Are you aware that your chart has a special aspect called a Mystic Rectangle?, when two separate Oppositions in a chart (for you, Venus Opposed Saturn, and Mars Opposed Uranus) Sextile and Trine (get along with) each other. A Mystic Rectangle helps, instead of inhibits, each Opposition to express itself in its higher forms. With your chart, your cold or reserved nature (Venus Opposed Saturn) can interact with your impulsive and rebellious nature (Mars Opposed Uranus) and compromise and learn from each other.
Now, onto the Yod aspect (also known as the "Finger of God" aspect,) where one is divinely guided in this life to help and influence others. A Yod aspect has two planets in Sextile to each other, and both Quincunx (or stimulate) a third planet, creating a large "Y" formation across your chart. The third planet becomes the apex of the configuration. The Yod in your chart involves your Neptune Sextiling your Jupiter / Moon combination, and all in Quincunx to the apex planet Saturn, in your Tenth House.
An Apex Saturn Yod can be considered a very karmic Yod with somewhat fated undertones. Those with an Apex Saturn often start out life with ambiguous or inconsistent authority figures. Without structure, you may have felt out-of-tune with your ability to define yourself while growing up. With an Apex Saturn Yod, you are driven to overcome and reorganize the various dynamics at work in your life, in order to insure your own stability and mature.
When I began learning astrology, I always felt that very prominent people who influence so many others, such as clergy, political and religious leaders such as President, Pope, Dalai Lama ... even Oprah! were the only kinds of individuals who could activate Yod energy. But as my astrology practice evolved, I've learned that any individual with a Yod can be instrumental in helping others, even perhaps just one person, within their lifetime.
Your Saturn is involved in all three of the major aspects in your chart, your T-Square, Mystic Rectangle, and Yod, and therefore becomes the focal planet of your chart. Throughout your lifetime you will be learning to make the compromises between your more reserved self to your rashness and desires, as all seek equilibrium.
With Saturn as the apex planet of your Yod, and the stress upon it, the apex lessons of self responsibility, balance and moderation are difficult for you yourself to learn. Therefore, in effect, your own growth surrounding these lessons is the guidance you give to others. You may not even be consciously aware of this happening - it may be as subtle as your own particular viewpoints you share or the advice you give others. Those watching you mature may be gaining insight and wisdom into their own life, fulfilling your Yod's expression.
A Natal chart can be read at the moment you were born, doesn’t change overtime, and doesn’t take into what you’ve accomplished in your life so far. When you find strength in your own identity, and perhaps you already have, you'll find yourself pointed in a new life direction, and with your Moon and Jupiter in "New Age-y" Aquarius ;) with the special capacity for social responsibility and purpose.
Your maturing process can be an example of helping others. The divine guidance you are here to give others may very well be the lessons you yourself are learning in this lifetime. You are the healing.
