The Benefits of Acupressure
Battling Stress with a Gentle Touch
by Aliza Rosen
There’s a killer on the loose and its name is stress. Stress is known as a “Silent Killer” being responsible for 80%-90% of all illness, disease and accelerated aging.
A U.S. study, at Georgetown University, confirmed that the therapeutic benefits of acupressure reduce levels of a protein linked to chronic stress. The body’s reaction to stress left untreated is physical, mental and emotional responses.
Continuous stress without relief or relaxation causes tension in the body leading to physical symptoms including headaches, upset stomach, high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, skin conditions, chest pain, problems sleeping, asthma, arthritis, depression and anxiety. Research suggests that stress also can bring on or worsen certain symptoms or diseases.
“Stress is part of life, but you should take time for yourself to relax and learn how to incorporate stress relief habits into your daily life” says Acupressure Therapist, Aliza Rosen, founder of Aliza Healing Touch.
Excess and prolonged stress can be extremely damaging internally and externally. All types of stress create free radicals and acidity in the body which contributes to the acceleration of the aging process by damaging healthy cells and causing oxidizing effects on all bodily tissues and organs.
Forms of action you can take to reduce stress levels include:
· Relaxation training: Simple relaxation techniques can help reduce stress, allowing you to find balance and inner peace.
· Therapeutic Acupressure: Great for relieving stress, when placed at the correct points in the body, acupressure has been shown to restore balance and calm one’s nervous system, improve circulation, relieves muscle fatigue and tension and promotes relaxation of the mind, body, and spirit.
When there is tension in the body causing muscles to tighten, blood flow to these regions is decreased. As a result, the muscle does not work efficiently and compensates by recruiting other muscles. When this happens the body is thrown out of alignment. Acupressure manipulates the restricted muscles and allows oxygenated blood to flow into the area, releasing the tension. The body is now realigned, allowing it to be in balance and to return to its stress-free, natural alignment.
For improved health it’s not a luxury, it’s a necessity. When it comes to addressing stress the risk of ignoring it are great, the rewards of treating it are greater.
