The Bliss Mistress Guide: On the Elevator
by Edie Weinstein
A few years ago I was on an elevator heading to a meeting of some sort which was on the 4th floor of the building. I thought I had pushed the correct button to take me there. Instead it headed to the basement. There were two other people on the conveyance with me. One said, “Sometimes you have to go down to go up.” The other responded, “At least you’re on the elevator.” I smiled and felt those ‘truth barometer’ goose bumps that occur nearly every day. Clearly this experience and these insightful people and I were meant to come together. Who knows how long ago it was orchestrated? It reassured me that as always, I am at the right place and the right time and even if there are detours, there is a purpose.
I have found that message to be on target in my life and those of folks I serve as a therapist as well as people in my personal life. There are times when the elevator goes straight to the penthouse, without stopping at any floor in between. Those are the events in which I program my intention, plug in the destination and there is no reason to stop en route. There are desires I have that take a little longer to achieve and there are stops along the way when the ‘doors’ open and I need to wait for passengers to get off and on. That requires patience which is sometimes in short supply. Most of my ventures on the ‘lift’ have been career related. Long ago, without benefit of formal training (my degrees are in psychology and social work) I chose to become a writer or perhaps The Muse tapped me. It has literally been a series of ups and downs, partly because I have pushed too many buttons and it stopped at every floor. These days I am far more conscious about my destination rather than just enjoying the ride.
It occurred to me today, as I was updating my linked-in page, that I have been gratefully writing for Wisdom Magazine in one form or another for nearly 14 years. My first interview was in May of 2000 with Jonette Crowley. Wisdom has been home for so many of my words in the form of interviews with all kinds of transformational movers and shakers, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama. When I stepped on that elevator, it was a straight shot.
Take a look at your own life and dreams. Are you willing to at least enter the elevator with the possibility of getting where you want to be?
Going up?
