The Bliss Mistress Guide: Soul Contracts

I am constantly amused and fascinated with the concept of experiencing certain events that when I gaze at them in retrospect, I realize that they may have happened so that I could tap into them to make a difference in someone else's life now. An example: When Michael was diagnosed with Hepatitis C back in 1992, I embarked on a journey that I never would have imagined. In the interceding 6 years, I learned the medical terminology, became his caregiver, passed through the ER doors so many times that we racked up ‘frequent flyer miles’, spent 5 ½ weeks living in the ICU where he lay comatose, waiting for a liver transplant that never occurred, not sleeping in my own bed until the day he died on 12/21/98.

A few months ago, people came into my life who are now facing the same circumstances, at the same hospital, with the same doc that worked with us more than 15 years ago. Had I not walked that path before, I wouldn’t be able to be of support beyond the theoretical. What if the Universe had a grand plan in mind, even as much as I would not (nor would Michael) have specifically asked for these circumstances? Further, how about the idea that these folks also experienced all of the twists and turns necessary to bring us to the point at which we came together? It ties into the idea of Soul Contracts.

Caroline Myss has this to say about the subject: “That Contract contains a wide range of agreements regarding all that we are intended to learn in this life. It comprises not merely what kind of work we do but also our key relationships with the people who are to help us learn the lessons we have agreed to work on. Each of those relationships represents an individual Contract that is part of your overall Sacred Contract, and may require you to be in a certain place at a certain time to be with that person.”

I believe that each of us has free will and can re-negotiate the contract once we are clear on what it is. We may not be aware of the specifics, but when something feels in synch and a sense of aha flows through us, then we know there is a higher purpose to even the most challenging and painful experience. I can generally laugh at the turn of events with a cosmic question “Who thought this one up?” The answer is always “I did.” Who signed on the dotted line eons ago? That would be me. I call these ‘blessons’ which is a combination of blessing and lessons that invite us to witness the grace that flows when we claim the value of these pivotal events.
