Interfaith Kirtan for World Peace, June 7 in NYC
Imagine, as John Lennon invited us to do, all the people living life in peace. Imagine what our world would be like if members of all the world’s religions recognized the unity of their faith instead of fighting over the differences in their beliefs. Imagine how many wars would not be fought, how many lives would not be lost, how many families would not be shattered, if we all honored a simple yet profound teaching: "Truth is one, paths are many."
To keep imagining and manifesting a world free of fighting over faith, many voices will come together for the first Interfaith Kirtan for World Peace, on Saturday, June 7, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. With Krishna Das, GuruGanesha Singh, Kirtan Rabbi, Mandala Kirtan, Grand Gong Master Don Conreaux, the Islamic Call to Prayer, and the P.S. 41 Songbirds children’s choir, this extraordinary evening is part of the worldwide "Global Garland" celebration of the 100 th birth anniversary of Swami Satchidananda. The event also includes the New York premiere of The Interfaith Vision of Swami Satchidananda, a short film.
The Yoga master Swami Satchidananda is known for founding Integral Yoga, almost fifty years ago, and helping give birth to the modern Yoga movement. The groundbreaking work he did as an interfaith pioneer, along with such visionaries as Rabbi Joseph Gelberman, Brother David Steindl-Rast, Reverend James Parks Morton, and Roshi Bernie Glassman, ushered in a new age of hope for a greater understanding of what all faiths have in common. The beloved Integral Yoga All Faiths Yantra that he created is a rendering of religious unity. And the Light Of Truth Universal Shrine, or LOTUS, at Satchidananda AshramYogaville, near Charlottesville, Virginia, another expression of "Truth is one, paths are many," is the first shrine in the world to honor all the world’s faiths under one beautiful, domed roof.
Come and imagine it. Come share your voice and the vision of a world where peace and joy, love and light, are recognized as the foundation of all faiths.
The Interfaith Kirtan for World Peace, Saturday, June 7, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1045 Amsterdam Avenue, New York City. Tickets online at www.iyiny.org.
