Manifesting with the Law of Attraction: Recognizing Your Resistance
by Cassendre Xavier
This morning I was in the kitchen and my brother was there rummaging for snackery (aka “snackage”). Or perhaps, I thought, he was looking for an entire meal. Breakfast, perhaps.
After not finding what he was looking for, he walked away, empty handed, and sat on the sofa, resuming his Very Important Business on his smartphone as I continued to clean the kitchen and then, about half an hour later as I was walking out of the kitchen I thought I’d ask him, “Hey, what would you have wanted for breakfast, if that was the kitchen of your dreams?”
I expected him to say something like, “Well, of course I’d have a live in chef, and I think this morning I’d have that person prepare for me something with a lot of fruit, and some hot ginger tea, and maybe some raw flax crackers with a guacamole dip.” Instead, he just said, “I don’t know. I guess I need to do some juicing. I don’t know. Something with no meat and no gluten.”
I was crestfallen. I knew my brother to be a powerful manifester. He’d manifested a bigger house and a luxury vehicle, and I’d had many conversations with him which were very inspiring and inspired. He really knows what he’s talking about when it comes to creating what you want with the law of attraction. And more importantly, he exemplifies it often. But clearly he has something of a block around his diet and what is possible for him to have around him on a daily basis.
Among students and practitioners of the law of attraction, this is called “resistance”.
The law of attraction is basically the premise that like attracts like, and using the law of attraction to manifest your desires is basically about having your vibration match what it will be when you have what you want.
There are many things that are easy for you to believe you can have, and these things take little or no effort for you to vibrate in such a way that you will experience them.
And there are some things that are not as easy for you to believe you can have.
It is very important to notice how you are feeling at any given time, and examine your vibration so that you are consciously attracting.
It isn’t about being on constant watch. You don’t want to be scared of your thoughts or worried about your vibrations. You just want to pause a few times a day, as feels comfortable for you, and just become more aware of how you’re feeling. Then make some adjustments.
We all have areas that we manifest things very easily.
For example, I easily manifest computers, phones, books, short-term places to live, short-term friends, short-term romantic partners, and other things and circumstances. I have little to no resistance to these things.
I have a harder time manifesting (believing I can have) long-term pleasant gainful employment in or out of the arts sector, long-term comfortable places to live, long-term friends, long-term romantic partners, and the like. For these, I must take time to notice my beliefs and my feelings about my being worthy of having them or even knowing how to attract them.
I remember going to a meeting of a popular law of attraction coach in the area. While we were all talking I was very surprised to learn that this very attractive persun and long-time law of attraction coach had a serious block around finding romantic love.
I often think about how Arielle Ford and I are opposites in that she had difficulty finding a soulmate while having a very financially successful career. She applied the same highly developed skills in mastering the law of attraction that she used to build her amazing career as a publicist to some of the biggest names in personal growth publishing, to attracting and maintaining a happy marriage of 13 years with Brian Hilliard. I, on the other hand, have manifested love in the relationship department, and need a lot of help and practice in manifesting the financial aspects of my work. The total opposite of Arielle! Sometimes even use Arielle Ford’s book The Soulmate Secret: Manifest the Love of Your Life with the Law of Attraction to clarify law of attraction techniques for me to finding a home and a career that lasts and benefits me and those around me.
Here are 5 techniques you can use to monitor and manage your vibration, and begin attracting more of what you want using the law of attraction!
1) Check in with yourself at least 5 times a day to see how you’re feeling and what you are thinking. Set alarms if necessary. Do this only as it feels comfortable and pleasant, and adjust the number accordingly. (Incidentally, 5 is the number of change, so numerologically speaking, it’s a great place to start!)
2) When you observe resistance, address it with love. Welcome it and take care of it by working with it. Do not kick it or kick it out in anger, fear, guilt or shame. Only love, patience, and acceptance.
3) Make a list of why and how you can have what you want. Keep these lists with you and look at them often.
4) Have little “progress tests” or mini-goals for what you want. Every time you accomplish something, make a note of and reward yourself for it.
5) Tell at least one close friend what you’re doing, and offer to help them, too. Buddy systems work wonders in manifesting desires!
