Ideals: Key to a Purpose-Filled Life
by Sue H. Singleton
Imagine you are adrift at sea…What do you need? The lighthouse beacon, which illuminates the right direction, of course! Establishing life ideals/goals is like choosing your personal lighthouse beacon, and is key to uncovering your life’s purpose.
The Law of Ideals is already at work in your life. You may have an unconscious purpose that is contradicting your conscious mission. On the other hand, maybe you haven’t noticed that your activities and decisions cancel out what you say your goals are. Your self-talk, favorite phrases, attitudes, and beliefs are always telling the universe what your goals are. How you spend your time, energy, and money reveals what you value most. Do you like where you are? Are you achieving your goals?
Living life without clearly defined goals/ideals is analogous to being adrift at sea, tossed by the waves, carried by the prevailing winds and currents. We feel powerless, and may go into survival mode. We may feel sick and dizzy as we look into waves, struggle to catch fish and obtain fresh drinking water. This situation is less likely when we prepare according to well-articulated ideals in alignment with our activities. It’s not too late to sit back and observe your current situation in order to determine your short-term and long-term goals, to assure that they complement each other.
It is critical to work consciously with the Law of Ideals, one of nine Spiritual Laws that are the underpinnings of the universe (excerpt from my book, Nine Simple Laws to Create Joy and Grace: A Comprehensive Guide to Manifestation). When we have clear intentions and work with the Law of Ideals for the highest good, it’s easy to make decisions. It also invites the support of the Law of Manifestation/Attraction.
Let’s apply this concept to daily life. If your goal is joy, then you need to examine how you’re supporting joy in your life. If you choose to spend a lot of time with people who belittle you or who are negatively focused, then you’re not supporting your ideal of joy. On some level, you share their misery goal if you choose to stay. It’s important to remember that it’s not about where you begin the journey, but about where you choose to go. In the movie The Pursuit of Happyness [sic], Will Smith portrays the real-life Chris Gardner, who was homeless but then became a millionaire. He and his young son struggled, but together they pursued their ideal of happyness [sic] and created a better life.
When you clearly define your ideals and live in alignment with them, decision-making about jobs, life-partners, homes and shopping become simple. An ideal is about choosing your must-haves in life, the very essence of what makes your heart sing.
