Edgar Cayce and the Enlightenment of NYC
by Sidney & Nancy Kirkpatrick
If you’re reading a magazine about holistic body-mind-soul health, you’ve probably come across the work of Edgar Cayce (1877-1945). As a young man, Cayce discovered that he was able to enter into a self-induced sleep state and place his mind in contact with an unlimited Universal Source of information.
While sleeping, he could answer questions and give discourses on any subject or topic, speaking with authority and using the correct medical terminology. Though he had only an eighth-grade education, the accuracy of his diagnoses and the effectiveness of the treatments he prescribed for the body, mind, and soul made him a medical phenomenon—the "Father of Holistic Medicine."
Edgar Cayce in the Heart of NYC
What you might not know is that there’s been an Edgar Cayce Center in New York City for the past 19 years. This non-profit Center was founded in 1997 by a dedicated group of volunteers inspired by Edgar Cayce’s life and readings “To Manifest the Love of God in Service to Humanity” by being a spiritually minded, heart-centered place where all seekers from the NYC area can:
• Connect with our inner guidance
• Heal on many levels
• Evolve to our highest potential
• Find peace in a constantly changing world
Now, this Center for holistic health, intuitive development and spiritual growth is moving in September to a more modern space—a step up in quality, efficiency and aesthetics. The Center’s new home is conveniently located in midtown Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood a few blocks from its previous space and from the Penn Station hub.
Grand Opening September 24-25
To celebrate the Grand Opening of its new home on September 24-25, the NYC Center will present an enlightening program by Cayce biographers Sidney and Nancy Kirkpatrick, the only researchers to have been granted unrestricted access to the Cayce vault at Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) in Virginia Beach. Sidney Kirkpatrick, author of the definitive modern biography Edgar Cayce: An American Prophet, brings to life his incredible story as no one else can. With Nancy, his wife and co-researcher, he explores the extraordinary legacy of Edgar Cayce and the evolution—and elevation—of human consciousness foretold by “the sleeping prophet” that we are living through today!
Kentucky Farm Boy to Great Mystic
The Edgar Cayce story challenges the imagination: A backwoods, uneducated Kentucky farm boy becomes the greatest psychic of modern times, and the documented psychic of all time. In a waking state, he lived a humble existence as a portrait photographer, devoted husband and father, and church deacon.
In a trance state, however, he tapped into universal knowledge and could correctly answer almost any question put to him. He diagnosed illness and recommended cures for crippling diseases and intractable medical conditions.
He would help make millions for investors on Wall Street and would find oil wells in Texas. He could peer into the distant past—and preview the future. He could look into the deepest, darkest recesses of people’s souls and then provide enlightenment and encouragement. Even the staunchest of skeptics, including Harry Houdini, became convinced.
Nevertheless, Edgar and his family’s lives were filled with hardship and struggle. Yet out of their trials and tribulations would come a body of work that has become a source of inspiration and a powerful force for enlightening change in the lives of tens of millions of people around the world.
A Man Ahead of His Time
The Cayce vault is more than a repository for the collected correspondence and trance readings of the man known worldwide as “the sleeping prophet.”
From documents containing rarely examined technical and scientific insights Cayce provided for leading inventors, business recommendations for Fortune 500 CEOs, and the counsel he offered to U.S. presidents and presidential hopefuls, or to ordinary folks just hoping to restore health and well-being and to evolve spiritually, comes a virtual blueprint for a more advanced, healthy, peaceful and sustainable future on planet Earth—what Cayce envisioned as a “New Atlantis.”
On the vault’s shelves can be found records on how to build a perpetual motion motor, how to produce a device to non-invasively diagnose illness, schematics and actual prototypes for a device to re-charge the body (and tap into the Akashic records), guidance on how to best lead our daily lives, and how we can expedite our own soul’s evolution.
What Is Our Soul’s Purpose?
Cayce also answers crucial questions about our human potential: who or what we really are, where did we come from, where are we headed and why are we here? Can we actually live longer? How do we enhance and enlighten our lives? What are our minds truly capable of?
According to Cayce we are very fortunate indeed to be on Earth at a time that is extremely important to humanity’s evolution:
“Be GLAD you have the opportunity to be alive at this time and to be a part of that preparation for the coming influences of a spiritual nature that MUST rule the world...these are a part of thy experience. Be happy of it, and give thanks daily for it.” –Reading 2376-3
NYC’s Center of Enlightenment
For 19 years, the NYC Edgar Cayce Center has been a leader in the evolution of consciousness, offering enlightening workshops, classes, groups and wellness services to enhance holistic health, intuitive development and spiritual growth—individually, and as a community of kindred spirits. The dedicated volunteers, teachers, wellness practitioners and supporters who make this Center possible believe wholeheartedly in the purpose defined by Cayce:
“Know that the purpose for which each soul enters a material experience is that it may be as a Light to others.” —Reading 641-6
