Feng Shui: Q & A
by Aaron Lee Koch
LOST HER JOB AND SCARED
Dear Practitioner,
I was recently laid off from my job and I am pretty much devastated. To be totally up front, I was in a bit of a rut in my position and I was not treated that well, but I had no plans to leave. My main goal in life was to qualify for the largest possible pension and to retire comfortably. Now, everything is ruined and my life feels like the rug has been pulled out from under me. I now feel that I have no security and no stability. And, frankly, I am scared for the future. What can I do to move on and find another position?
Mary,
Cortland, NY
Dear Mary,
I always take the approach that change means improvement. This is the universe’s way of telling you that you are ready for something better! You are feeling scared because you are not accustomed to living with an unknown future. Try to relax. Take a short holiday if you’d like. Panic makes clear thinking extremely difficult. Living is about taking risks and going out on a limb when you cannot see the fruit at the end of the branch! The future is only certain if you are dead. Be grateful for the "nudge" that you were given and know it is for the best. Make a list of all of your options. You may be surprised. Would you like another job in the same field? Is this possibly an opportunity to try a different field? Is this the right time to move to another location that you’ve long been dreaming about? Or, maybe the time is right to start your own business? I guarantee that you have more options than you thought. Place a piece of clear quartz on your nightstand – it will help bring clarity to your thinking. Instead of focusing on consequences, start to look at opportunities!
LIFE IS FALLING APART
Dear Practitioner,
My self-esteem is the pits. My apartment is in such bad shape that I would never have friends over. I have even neglected my wardrobe and gained a lot of weight. I feel like my whole life is falling apart. I do not know why this has happened or how to turn things around. Can you offer any help?
Terri,
Great Bend, PA
Dear Terri,
You describe symptoms of low self-esteem, but you do not go into the cause of your feelings. I’m sure that the condition of your surroundings, your weight and your wardrobe do not help, but you would not have let things fall into bad condition if you were feeling good about yourself. You can feel better by working on your surroundings and appearance but it would be best to address the root cause, as well. Do little things that make you feel good about yourself. In fact, make feeling good about yourself your top priority! Do an unexpected act of kindness for someone at least once each day. Don’t try to impress others. Rather, aim to be able to look in the mirror and feel wonderful about yourself. Every day, do some powerful mirror work. Simply look in your eyes in the mirror, and say to yourself "I love you, I really love you", along with other positive, supportive and loving statements. If this feels strange at first, that means you have touched on the area that needs work. Do the exercise daily and you will gradually internalize the self-love. In your apartment, try to complete one small cleaning or organizing project each day. When you are ready, call on your most trusted friends for support. Enlist their help in cleaning and organizing. Go shopping and select some clothes that make you feel terrific! Try a new hairstyle that makes you feel beautiful! Focus on everything that you love about yourself and that contributes to you being the wonderful person that you are!
FENG SHUI FOR THE CAR
Dear Practitioner,
I have had great results with Feng Shui in both my home and my office. Is there a way to apply Feng Shui to my car? I would like to ensure that every trip is safe and brings me good luck and good experiences.
S.R.
Moscow, PA
Dear S.R.,
There are a number of ways to apply Feng Shui to your vehicle, thereby increasing the likelihood that you will enjoy comfortable and safe travel. Securely hang a small mirror ball ("disco ball") or a 30mm faceted clear crystal ball from the rear view mirror over the dashboard. Include a symbol of spirituality near the dashboard. This can be anything that is meaningful to you, such as a "traveler’s prayer", a statue of Jesus or any saint, a hamsa (Middle Eastern protective hand), or another symbol of your choosing. Keep the car neat and well-organized. If you do business from your car, consider a "mobile office" organizer for the passenger seat. If your family car is often a place for eating or drinking, have an adequate garbage receptacle, plenty of cup holders, and even lap trays. Keep CDs in the car that can create a desired mood, keep you wide awake and entertain the kids. Aromatherapy can be used easily in the car. You can use commercial air fresheners, but even better is a scent diffuser that fits into the cigarette lighter. These allow you to use any essential oils of your choice, with no harmful chemicals. Scents such as peppermint and tea tree can help you stay alert and safe.
