Ask Your Pet
by Jennifer Dickman
Dear Jennifer,
My family had a beautiful fish named Maite. We fell in love with her, but after a short life with us she passed away. I wonder if you’re able to speak with fish, and if you could speak to Maite for us.
My daughter would like to tell Maite that she loves her very much and wishes that she had been with us longer. I’d like Maite to know that I’m sorry we didn’t get her back to the doctor in time. I’m sorry I stepped out of the room and she died while I was gone. I’m very glad she was a part of our family. I love her very much.
Celeste
Dear Celeste,
Yes, I can speak with fish and all sorts of creatures. Maite is happy you reached out to her. She does have messages she’d like to pass along.
First, she’d like you all to know that she felt, and still feels, your love. She loves you all, too. You made her feel beautiful and special, and she’ll never forget that.
Maite says you didn’t do anything wrong. She would have crossed over even if you’d taken her to the vet. And, she purposely crossed while you were out of the room, so you didn’t have to see it happen. It’s all okay, and she doesn’t want you to worry about her or feel guilty.
Maite says that she chose to become ill and leave her body. She wants to emphasize that she could not have been with more loving and caring people. But, she just didn’t want to be in a tank. She wanted to be in a school of other fish, swimming free, feeling the sun heat the water, swimming into shadow to cool down. She wanted to be what she couldn’t be with you, but wouldn’t have known how to survive if you had set her free.
So, Maite set herself free by going to Spirit. As I type this, Maite is warning me to please tell everyone that it’s not like this for people. People have a very deliberate life path that they need to see through to completion, even if there are times when it is hard, lonely, or seems unfair. It’s never the right choice for a human to cross deliberately, unless they’re near the end of their life and the decision is made with a doctor and great thought and awareness.
But, Maite says it’s not like this for fish. Fish have feelings; it’s true. They feel pain and love. They aren’t given enough credit for that by most people. However, their purpose for being in this world is less complicated than a human incarnation, and it’s okay for them to choose to cross over.
Maite sends you all love and peace. She wants you to again be assured that nothing was your fault, and she loves you very much, too. She sends peace to all Beings, and holds a vision of a time when her brothers and sisters will all swim free.
Many Blessings,
Jennifer Dickman
