Discover A New You - Reboot This Spring!
by Laura Norman
It’s spring! After a long winter’s sleep, Nature awakens, shakes off the frost and renews herself.
It’s time for us to do the same. Time for starting fresh, throwing out the old and bringing in the new! Springtime renewal traditions date back to ancient times and cut across cultures, including extreme house-cleaning, making or buying new clothes and painting eggs! (Yes, spring egg-decorating originated in ancient Sumeria.)
Internal body cleanses are also part of the spring tradition—getting rid of the accumulated dross of winter as we move into the more active time of the year. (Of course, getting ready for swimsuit season can be a modern motivator!)
There’s wisdom in the traditions of inner cleansing. The less active lifestyle of winter, the concentration of toxins in our modern indoor environments and diet can overwork our bodies’ built-in elimination and immune systems. If allowed to accumulate, toxins can lead to chronic health issues. After a cleanse, however, many people report feeling lighter, brighter, healthier, and having increased energy and peace of mind.
Traditional ingredients of “spring tonics” vary, but some American detoxing favorites are young dandelion leaves, nettle leaves and burdock. You can choose from a multitude of cleansing diets and fasts. Some folks take castor oil (internally and/or externally as castor oil packs), use colon hydrotherapy, or steam away toxins in the sauna or sweat lodge. You might combine a meditation/yoga intensive or other form of spiritual renewal practice with your cleansing program.
If you’re new to cleanses, do some research and consult with your doctor or naturopath before jumping in.
Here’s one that is pure joy:
A professional reflexology session is a soothing, gentle cleanse in itself—a pleasurable addition to any detox program. Reflexology—the art of applying firm yet gentle pressure to “reflex points” on the hands, face, ears and feet to balance your organs, glands, and all body systems—helps your body to eliminates toxins through your lymphatic system. It improves circulation, boosts your immune system and encourages the release of endorphins, your natural "feel-good" hormones.
People with allergies, chronic pain, fatigue, insomnia, weight issues and more report significant relief and lasting improvement after reflexology sessions. By also alleviating stress and anxiety, and increasing your focus and energy, reflexology should be part of your spring “reboot”.
Spring is also a time for new beginnings—an opportunity to expand your knowledge and acquire new skills. Take one of our Reflexology introductory or certification classes and use the soothing, relaxing techniques you learn to benefit your family and friends—or even start a new or second career. People from all walks of life take our training. Beauty and healthcare professionals do so as well for continuing education credits and to expand their practice.
Take the opportunity now to renew yourself. Spring into restored vigor, better health, and the joy of helping others—with reflexology. Discover a new you!
