A Happy Surprise
by Jan Feuer
My daughter, Margo, has been a devout Christian for many years. I was happy to accept her faith as long as she was happy with it. I was surprised and pleased when she called me last summer, saying that she wanted to join me at the 2017 Eckankar Worldwide Seminar. “OK”, I said, “I’d love to have you join me there.” Things worked out and we attended our first workshop “Divine Kinship: Animals as Carriers of God’s Love.” Margo and I are lifetime animal lovers. She was comfortable in our small group sharing her animal stories.
Later, I asked, “Margo, why did you choose to come to this seminar?” She replied, “I wanted to spend more mother-daughter time, and I just don’t feel that I fit into Christianity anymore. I want to look into Eckankar. You have been in Eckankar for years. Perhaps there is a place for me.” She had done some seeking and has liked what she found so far. I spent most of the seminar answering questions and was glad to do it.
In the book room, I pointed out the book, Animals Are Soul Too, by Harold Klemp, the Spiritual Leader of Eckankar. She looked at it briefly and we both moved on. I left her to browse. As I was ready to check out, Margo came over with the book saying I could buy it for her. Apparently, she had been reading some of the stories and was taken with it.
I enjoyed seeing that she felt comfortable joining in with the crowd for the main program presentations. I watched as she led a standing ovation for one of the presentations that had touched her. I heard her shout “whoo!” after another presentation. She was beginning to feel “at home”. What a wonderful blessing for both of us.
The evening program featured my spiritual guide, Harold Klemp’s talk. Like many attendees, we were humbled by it. When he arrived on stage the approximately 4,500 attendees came alive, clapping and yelling while on their feet with a heartfelt standing ovation. Margo rose for the ovation, clapping, yelling and stamping her feet with the rest of the crowd. This always occurs whenever the Living ECK Master (Harold) makes an appearance. His loving, humble, response and light laughter increased the roar of the crowd, ourselves included. She was enjoying herself. There was so much love available to all and we shared it, both laughing and crying as presentations touched Soul.
As Margo listened to Harold, I could see she was deeply moved. I held her hand, recognizing the power of love in my heart and in the room. It was palpable everywhere.
As the seminar closed I asked Margo if she had gotten her questions answered. She replied, “Yes, but I have many more questions. Are you going to the Eckankar Springtime Seminar? Maybe we can go together. “
I am very grateful to participate in this Awakening Soul experience.
