A Television Vision
by Marti Ford
Some time ago, I was watching television and engrossed in a movie. Suddenly, the scene changed to something that I knew wasn't a part of that show. I was now watching some of my family members on TV. I saw my sister standing next to a fence at a race track with my brother in law who was a pit crew member changing tires. Then one of the cars crashed into the fence right where my sister was standing and just missed hitting her.
When the scene of the race was over I called my sister and told her what I saw on TV. She had a hard time believing what I was saying. Understandably. She told me they were planning to go to that race track on the weekend. It hadn’t happened yet! I asked them to make me happy and not stand next to a fence.
They went to the race that weekend as they planned. When they got home they called me and told me that the car crashed just as I said. They didn’t stand next to the fence.
Lots of us have had inexplicable experiences. We may wonder ”did I really see that? Sometimes they’re visual like mine, sometimes they come as sound- a voice, sweet music or crickets chirping in the winter. Sometimes we just shake it off as “weird”. Now and then they’re just so powerful that we have to pay attention.
I wanted to know know why I was having this kind of “spiritual” experience. This led me to books by Harold Klemp and Paul Twitchell. I found answers to many of my questions in those books. This gave me a better understanding of how Holy Spirit works with me and how my unique experiences are just right for me. I’m learning, with inner guidance, how to open my awareness, to a greater balance within myself through my study of Eckankar. “Spiritual experiences” aren’t just for the monks, the saints, the “gifted” or “special ones” . I think it’s for all of us? We are all searching for God or Truth (I believe) and looking for answers to things that are happening to us and in the world around us. We question how these things really relate to us.
God has a plan for each of us. He shows us by his radiant Light that shines in many lives all around us. We hear God’s Sound in the people laughing, crying and telling their stories. We hear it in the birds song, the frogs croaking, and the crickets in the winter.
Eckankar teaches that we are all Soul, a little spark of God and we can explore our relationship with God and Holy Spirit through simple spiritual exercises that bring our attention back to our divinity. For example: focus attention on your spiritual eye in the middle of your forehead, sing HU (hyoooo), or another spiritually charged word and ask for spiritual guidance and you may see God's wonders and hear them too.
