Special Needs Adult/Healing Artist – Life is Experience, Growth & Challenge
by Cassendre Xavier
The road to success for the artist is rarely a straightforward, uninterrupted one.
Most people will have some major setbacks and need some encouragement to get back and stay on the path to authentic self-expression and creativity.
People with mental and/or physical health issues who also happen to be aspiring artists or craftspersuns have a particularly challenging path at times.
It is important to remember that there is no right or true way to become an artist. And there is no one right and true way to become content as a humyn, being.
People approaching midlife or middle age may experience similar feelings. It’s easy to look back and think you haven’t done all things you felt you “should” have. There is no should in life. There is only experience, growth, progress, and then more experience, growth and progress.
If you are “of a certain age,” and/or are living with serious life challenges such as physical or mental health issues, all while trying to be a creatively productive person or artist, know that you have a lot of challenges that may need your attention.
You may need a lot more support than what you have been using or counting on over the years.
If you want to write and publish a book, don’t be surprised if you haven’t made much progress. It can take quite a bit of support and organizational structure to begin making significant progress. It may not take a lot, but if you haven’t made significant progress in years, consider you may have been lacking in support. You may want to consider hiring a consultant, joining or starting a support group to set and begin working towards to reachable realistic goals. You may need to go to writers’ conferences and/or take classes for aspiring authors.
If you would like to do more visual art, you may need to take classes.
If performance is your dream, you may need to start calling venues to find out what is required to be featured there.
You may also need to have more support where you receive care for your physical and mental health needs.
A life coach could be very helpful, and possibly even be covered by your health insurance, depending on the persun’s title and employer. Psychotherapy can also be very helpful, and has been, for many artists.
Regardless of your abilities or challenges, you can become the creative persun and artist you have dreamed of for years. Seek examples online, by searching, and find that your dream is possible!
