Ask Your Pet
by Jennifer Dickman
Dear Jennifer,
I live in a wooded area with a lot of wildlife. Over the summer, I befriended a young doe I named Bella. She would come to my back fence nearly every day. Once she got to know me she would eat apples out of my hand. I gave her one whenever I saw her. Then, she suddenly stopped coming. I sometimes see deer near my property, but she’s never with them. Would you please ask Bella what happened?
Kristine
Dear Kristine,
Bella wants you to know that she didn’t stop visiting on purpose. She’s showing me two men in what appears to be an ATV or jeep. They’re between her and the woods in a grassy area. She’s trying to get back to the safety of the woods, but they keep blocking her. She’s terrified, heart racing, short of breath. She knows they will hurt her. She flashes on an image of her mother, as well as a fawn that seems to be related to her. She realizes won’t have one of her own. She wishes she hadn’t come this way. And, yes, she does flash on an image of you, and is sad that she won’t see you again. Then she hears a loud bang. One of the men screams with joy. The other laughs. They are laughing that they hurt her.
Bella doesn’t understand. Why would they want to hurt her? Why are they glad that she is dying? Why are they glad that she will never have a baby, or run through the tall grass again, or be nuzzled by her mother. Why?
Kristine, please know that all of this happened within moments. Bella’s suffering wasn’t prolonged. There was another bang, and she was out of her body. I’m so sorry. While part of me thinks I should delete this, I believe Bella deserves to have her story told. So, I’ll do that for her. Bella wants humans to know the harm they’re causing to Nature. She says we do things without thinking, and she wants us to think about the impact of our actions. She says the hunters were no better or more important than she was, and she didn’t deserve what they did to her. This was not her choice, and she wasn’t ready. She doesn’t want me to sugarcoat things, or say it was her time, because she feels it wasn’t.
Bella does want you to know that she’s okay. She’s in Spirit, with loving beings who are helping her heal. She’s surrounded by feelings of peace and love, and says she will accept them completely soon, once she knows her message has been heard. She says you are a true friend, with a beautiful heart. She will watch over you from Spirit and sends you love. She’s sorry that she felt she had to describe her crossing to me, and wants you to forget about it and only think about happy memories. Bella says you have a sacred bond, and will see each other again one day.
Many Blessings,
