The Imperative Of Self Care
by Dr. Georgianna Donadio
There are few Americans today unaware that seeking competent, affordable medical care can become an anxiety producing experience. This is due in large part to the current specialization and fee for provider time driven medical system, focused on decreasing time spent with consumers and increasing company profits.
Every day news headlines report another issue, crisis, or failure of our modern healthcare system. With all the extraordinary technology and research in the U.S. today, the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, and other leading public health agencies report the following:
- Chronic disease rates increased 57% by 2020 - Adult obesity rates have doubled in the last three decades - 46% of older persons 60 and above have an age related disability
In addition, Dr. John Abramson, MD, author of the book Sickening, says “‘Science based medicine’ is curated and supported by the companies that profit from the exaggerated benefits and minimized risks of the most recent and expensive medicine.” He asks, “Why would anyone believe that the same companies that defrauded the FDA and paid billions of dollars in fines for damages would be telling us the truth about the safety trials of their medications and vaccines?”
The urgency of making an immediate and personal commitment to taking control of your daily health cannot be overstated. Wellness programs fail because they do not honor the most important factor for sustainable lifestyle changes - offering information and knowledge on how small steps can be taken rather than setting a high bar for expectations which will likely not be achieved. This is now a multiple study approach - for individuals to set understandable, achievable goals, which can then lead to successful changes and long term accomplishments.
As the 1977 pioneer, hospital researcher of Whole Health, and director of the National Institute of Whole Health, I have had the privilege of over 50 years’ experience in both medical and holistic healthcare. I have heard tens of thousands of stories of the issues, dangers, and bad outcomes stemming from today’s healthcare services.
To empower people with the knowledge they need to take greater control of their health and avoid medical error, the National Institute of Whole Health is launching, in early October 2022, healththyself.org, a platform for educating and empowering healthcare consumers with evidence based, yet totally demystified health information to be used as a tool for self-directed care and prevention.
Healththyself.org will also provide a free health advocacy course for you to understand, manage, and navigate your own personal healthcare needs. We invite you to visit the site in October, 2022 and educate yourself on how to take greater control of your health - and the health of those you love. For more information, visit us at www.niwh.org. You may also contact conor@niwh.org with any questions you may have.
