Dear Sandy,

This question has always been controversial. I have prayed and meditated about it and my guides gave me the following explanation. Our souls were "sparked out" from God, eons ago (like sparks from a flame). God is a source of pure unconditional love and light – filled with infinite wisdom. The father/mother God creator wanted to experience himself/herself in a greater way, so our souls are extensions of that source. Each soul (which is your light body) is eternal and indestructible, and each has its own unique mind, personality and memory bank. So your soul was conceived even before a human body was thought of or created. God then said, "How can I now experience myself in a greater way?" – so a human body was conceived or created to house the soul. God gave every soul "free choice and free will" to make decisions and to give us the opportunity to chart our own course through life. So that, in a way, makes us "co-creators" with God and it makes us self empowered beings. With everything you do, say and feel – God is experiencing life through you!

Now, we re-enter the earth plane time and again to learn and be aware of soul lessons. We enter the new baby body through the top of the head around the time that we take our first breath, which we call the "breath of life." Our light body uses the physical body like a driver would use a car. When the car (body) is old and rusty, so to speak, we junk it and go back to the fourth dimension to regroup. Every soul chooses a time line in which to learn certain soul lessons. If an individual passes at a young age, most likely the time line was up and the soul chose to leave. There is no time in the fourth dimension so we can look over our own soul’s progression from the time we were created up to now! We also make soul agreements with those souls we have been with before, hence we choose our parents to learn and grow.

Remember, one can destroy the body, but never the soul. The soul that hovers around its mother’s body can change its mind at any point of development. For example, miscarriages are when the soul changes its mind and retracts or pulls away from the mother’s body before its own body is fully developed. The soul may change its mind for a number of reasons – the timing may not be conducive for the soul to learn its lessons, it may not be totally sure about incarnating with one of the parents and so on.

A stillborn baby happens when the body has come to full-term or development and the soul is hovering above in the delivery room looking down and saying, "No, I changed my mind, I can’t or don’t want to incarnate now." So again, every human soul has free choice and will. In the third dimension (earth plane), you also can say "no" to a soul that wants to come through to you. Maybe the timing is not right for you at the time you’re pregnant, or maybe you’re not sure of the father – it works both ways.

When you have an abortion you’re saying to the soul "not now." The soul then retracts from you and totally returns to the fourth dimension to regroup. It may try to come through you again, with another pregnancy, or it may choose to come down another generational line – like a sibling’s child or your grandchild. You are not being punished for your abortions. Again, one can destroy the body, but never the soul. When the time is right again and the soul chooses to incarnate through you once more you will be pregnant again. This could be the same soul as before or a new one. The souls (or soul) you chose not to accept are fine. Your soul is fine. Relax with everything. I hope this answer alleviates fear, guilt and blame from you and sheds new light on the process of the soul’s journey.

Your question is not an unusual one for me. Our departed can send us messengers in the form of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and insects. The cardinals you see are not your grandmother, but her soul is influencing them to appear. Just the fact that her favorite color was red is a clue. Love never dies and one cannot cut cords of closeness. When you see a cardinal, note the time and the day. For example, you might see more on your birthday or her passing date. I would say it is indeed Sarah, and you should be happy that she communicates in this way.
