It’s an uncomfortable topic but a necessary one – your bowel habits.
When we take lumbar xrays on patients, it is quite easy to see extra fecal matter being stored in the intestines on xray. It shows up as a speckled area on the film. And there’s seems to be a lot of "constipated" people out there.
Your colon stores toxic wastes, which if left to accumulate, will cause toxic substances to be re-absorbed and circulated throughout the body via the bloodstream. The term that you are "full of sh_t" couldn’t be more true.
So here’s some good ole’ fashioned advice (that you probably heard from Grandma).
· Daily bowel movements are necessary. It is not good enough to have bowel movements two-three times per week.
· Take time to eat slowly, and chew food thoroughly.
· Eat smaller, more frequent meals and avoid overeating at one sitting.
· Eliminate refined foods, sugars, soda, excess alcohol, and high fat dairy products from your diet.
· Decrease intake of saturated fats (animal products) and hydrogenated fats and increase essential fatty acids (cold-water fish, nuts, and seeds).
· Eat more fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains ideally getting at least 25 grams of fiber in your daily diet.
· Drink half of your body weight in ounces of water each day (if you weigh 150 lbs, drink 75 ounces of water daily).
· Purchase flax seed, grind it up and use at least one tablespoon daily sprinkled in your food or beverages. Flax seed is known for it’s fiber and omega-3 content.
· Warm lemon water taken before meals stimulates digestion.
· Consider digestive enzymes for chronic constipation (our product in the office is called Azeo-pangen®).
· In addition to eating food rich in Omega 3s, such as oily fish (salmon) and nuts, take an Omega 3 supplement daily. Our Wellness Essential® vitamin kits contain an Omega 3 capsule as well as the separate product, EPA/DHA extra strength. Also increase probiotic consumption such as natural yogurt, or supplement with probiotics. We carry a product called Ultraflora Plus. This will increase the ‘good’ bacteria in your gut which will win out over the ‘bad’ bugs in your gut.
· Lastly consider giving yourself an enema once or twice per month. You can purchase enema kits at most stores (Wal-Mart carries them). An enema kit is simply a hot water bag with an adapter hose. You can do lemon juice enemas, coffee enemas. They are very easy to do, and you wouldn’t believe what comes out of you when you do one (even if you think you have normal bowel habits). After an enema, remember to follow with a probiotic (see bullet above). The Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing book tells how to self administer an enema.
